Motorcycle Accident in Alton Kills North Carolina Man

August 11, 2010 - Alton, W. Va. - A motorcycle race at the Virginia International Raceway this past Saturday has resulted in one fatality.

WSAZ reports that Robert C. Gette, 38, of Charlotte, NC, was killed when another driver lost control of his motorcycle and the vehicle flipped. Gette then made a hard turn to avoid the wreck, which caused his own motorcycle to roll over. When Gette made an attempt to right himself, he was struck by another racer.

Gette was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. The motorcycle that hit Gette was driven by a 12-year-old racer from Sutton.

The motorcycle race and subsequent crash were elements of WERA Cycle Jam.
