Middle School Student Killed in Monongalia ATV Crash

Sept. 2, 2010 - Monongalia County, W. Va. - One child has died following an ATV crash in Monongalia County on Friday, Aug. 27.

WDTV reports that the accident happened in the Sugar Grove community. Ezekial Watson, 13, was driving his ATV in the community when it crashed. State Police said that the boy was then launched from the vehicle.

Preliminary reports reveal that the young victim was run over by his own vehicle in the crash. Watson was pronounced dead on the scene. State police said that the young ATV crash victim was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

The boy had just begun the 8th grade at Westwood Middle School, where he was a member of the football team.

According to news reports, Sugar Grove is a rural area where many young people frequently use four-wheelers for travel and recreation purposes. Police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the ATV accident.
