Man Sentenced in Connection With Fatal DUI Crash in Monongalia County

 
November 25, 2010 - Monongalia County, W. Va. - A man convicted of killing a woman while driving under the influence of alcohol was sentenced on Monday morning.

WDTV reports that the man, Matthew Veith, was sentenced to serve 2 to 10 years in a state penitentiary and 1 year in the North Central Regional Jail. The year in jail is for his second DUI. He also received 6 more months for driving with a revoked license, which was revoked after his first DUI, at the time of the accident. He was given some credit for time served at the Anthony Correctional Center as well as home confinement.

These sentences are set to run concurrently. Veith must begin serving his sentences by December 1, 2010.

The accident in question occurred in April 2009. Veith was driving with a blood alcohol level of .351. Veith's vehicle struck another head-on, resulting in the death of the vehicle's female driver.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
