Man Pleads Guilty to Leaving Scene of Fatal Morgantown Pedestrian Accident

February 9, 2011 - Morgantown, W.Va. - A man pled guilty Tuesday morning to leaving the scene of an accident involving death.

WBOY reports that the fatal pedestrian accident occurred on May 17, 2010, when Linda Marietta, 59, of Bobtown, Pennsylvania, was struck and killed by a truck on Point Marion Road in Morgantown. The driver of the truck then drove off without stopping. Marietta was pronounced dead on the scene.

On Tuesday morning, James Lewis entered a plea of guilty, indicating himself as the driver of the truck that struck Marietta. The charges against Lewis include leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

Lewis turned himself into police in May 2010 and was indicted, on the abovementioned charges, in September.

Lewis has not yet been sentenced. The sentencing date is yet to be announced.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
