Man Killed When Truck Overturns on Route 19 in Lewis County

February 7, 2011 - Lewis County, W.Va. - One man died Saturday as the result of a single-vehicle accident in Lewis County.

WDTV reports that the accident occurred at about 12:20 p.m. Saturday on Route 19 near Stonewall Resort. According to deputies of the Lewis County Sheriff's Department, Robert J. James, 74, of Weston, was travelling southbound on the roadway when he lost control of his truck.

The truck crashed into a guardrail and overturned, rolling into an embankment. The vehicle then rebounded back over the guardrail and rolled another 80 feet before it finally came to a stop.

James died on the scene. According to a Braxton County Medical Examiner, his death was caused by multiple injuries received in the crash.

James was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident and there were no other vehicles involved.

The cause of the Route 19 accident remains to be determined. The fatal accident is under ongoing investigation by the Lewis County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
