Man Killed when Pickup Crashes Into Dump Truck in Monongalia County

February 15, 2011 - Monongalia County, W.Va. - A crash between a car and a dump truck cost one man his life Friday afternoon.

WDTV reports that the fatal accident occurred at about 3 p.m. Friday on Fort Martin Road close to the Long View Power Plant in Monongalia County. According to officials, Lee Roy Edgell, 77, of Maidsville, was the driver of a pickup truck that crashed into the rear of a dump truck.

Edgell was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital immediately following the accident. He later died in the hospital.

The driver of the dump truck, Carl Hill, 47, of Fairmont, was not injured in the truck crash.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident. There were no further injuries. An accident re-constructionist was on the scene Friday afternoon in order to assist investigators.

This accident happened less then 24 hours after another fatal accident in Monongalia County, in which a man's pickup truck overturned on Interstate 68.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
