Man Killed in Rollover Crash on Route 19 in Fayette County

September 5, 2010 - Hilltop, W. Va. - A man is dead after a fatal rollover accident Fayette County early Thursday morning.

WBOY reports that the crash occurred at around 1 a.m. Thursday on Route 19 close to Hilltop. Deputies with the Fayette County Sheriff's Department have stated that the man drove his vehicle off the roadway, over-corrected the mistake, and caused the vehicle to roll over.

John Scarbrough, 64, of Beckley, died on impact. He was the only person in the vehicle at the time of the accident. No other vehicles were involved in crash.

Preliminary investigations by the Fayette County Sheriff's Department have named speed and alcohol as potential causes of the crash. Investigations are ongoing.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
