Man Killed in Pedestrian Accident on Kingwood Pike in Reedsville

September 16, 2010 - Reedsville, W.Va. - A pedestrian was killed on Wednesday when he was struck by a car in Reedsville.

WBOY reports that the accident occurred at around 12:40 p.m. Wednesday close to the WVU Farms in Reedsville. A vehicle was driving westbound on the Kingwood Pike when it went off the roadway, attempted to reenter the road and overcompensated.

According to West Virginia State Police, the vehicle then hit a Monongalia County man who was performing landscaping work on the side of the road at the time. The man, Francis Simmons, 65, of Canyon Village, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The fatal pedestrian accident remains under investigation by the West Virginia State Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
