Man Killed in Head-On Collision on Route 20 in Nicholas County

November 12, 2010 - Cottle, W.Va. - An accident in Cottle left one man dead Tuesday evening.

WBOY reports that the accident occurred at around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday on Route 20 in Nicholas County. Susan Culp, 39, was driving on the roadway when she lost control of her car. Officials from the Nicholas County Sheriff's Department stated that Culp's vehicle then went across the center line and into the opposite lanes of traffic, where it collided head on with another vehicle.

The driver of the second vehicle, Larry Michael Bailey, 57, of Craigsville, was rushed to the hospital immediately following the accident. Bailey later died in the hospital.

Whether or not Culp sustained injuries in the crash is unknown at this time.

As of Wednesday morning, no charges had been filed. Investigations into the fatal head-on collision are ongoing. All further investigations are being handled by the Nicholas County Sheriff's deputies.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
