Man Injured in Upshur County Rollover Accident on Route 20

September 7, 2010 - Upshur County, W. Va. - One man was injured and taken to the hospital following a car accident in Upshur County.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 11 p.m. Saturday night on Route 20. Dustin Carpenter was travelling Southbound past Buckhannon-Upshur High School when he lost control of his vehicle as it went around a turn. The vehicle then rolled over and came to stop upside-down, some distance from the roadway.

Carpenter managed to escape the vehicle without assistance. His passenger, however, had to be extricated by emergency response crews. The passenger was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital by helicopter. Police have stated that the passenger's injuries were non-life-threatening.

High speed is said to have been a factor in the crash. The rollover accident remains under investigation by State Police.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
