Man Hospitalized After South Charleston Pedestrian Accident

February 22, 2011 - South Charleston, W.Va. - A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle in South Charleston Saturday evening and had to be taken to the hospital.

WBOY reports that the pedestrian accident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. Saturday evening on Jefferson Road close to Kramer Road. A man was evidently walking on the roadway when he was hit by an oncoming vehicle.

The man was injured and had to be transported to Thomas Hospital immediately following the pedestrian accident.

The man was later transferred to CAMC General Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. His current medical condition is unknown.

The identities of those involved in the accident have not yet been released.

Jefferson Road was closed for about 2 hours after the accident. Traffic was backed up in both directions on the roadway.

The pedestrian accident remains under investigation. All further investigations are being handled by West Virginia State Police.

The driver of the vehicle in question received no citations for the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
