Man Flown to Hospital after Motorcycle Hits Car on Route 33 in Upshur County

March 23, 2011 - Upshur County, W. Va. - One man was injured Thursday afternoon in an accident involving a car and a motorcycle in Upshur County.

WDTV reports that the accident happened at about 1 p.m. Thursday afternoon on Route 33 in Upshur County. Mary Herron, 26, of Elkins, was driving her vehicle westbound on the roadway when, according to witnesses on the scene, she attempted to turn onto Boy Scout Camp Road.

A motorcycle, driven by Ernest Ware, 76, of Buckhannon, then came up behind Herron's car on its left side and the two vehicles collided.

According to deputies of the Upshur County Sheriff's Department, Ware was injured in the crash and had to be transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital via helicopter. The injured man's medical condition is unknown at this time. Authorities said they expect him to recover from his accident injuries.

The motorcycle crash is under ongoing investigation by the Upshur County Sheriff's Department. Deputies said they have yet to speak with Ware about how the accident occurred.

Officials from Upshur and Barbour counties were on the scene in response to the accident.
