Man Dies when SUV Rolls Over on I-79 in Lewis County

November 23, 2010 - Lewis County, W.Va. - One person was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Lewis County Monday morning.

WDTV reports that the accident occurred at about 9 a.m. Monday on Interstate 79 at mile marker 94. An SUV was travelling northbound on I-94 when the driver evidently lost control of the vehicle. The SUV flipped over several times.

The driver of the vehicle suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver's name is yet to be released.

There were no further injuries caused by the crash on I-94. The driver was the only person in SUV at the time and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.

The cause of the SUV rollover accident is yet to be determined. Officials from the Lewis County Sheriff's Department have stated that speed may have been a factor in the crash. The accident remains under investigation by the Lewis County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
