Man Dies in Single-Vehicle Crash on I-79 in Harrison County

November 10, 2010 - Harrison County, W.Va. - A man died in a rollover crash on Interstate 79 on Tuesday afternoon.

The crash was the second serious rollover accident on I-79 on Tuesday. Both single-vehicle accidents occurred within roughly 20 miles of one another in the northbound lanes of I-79 and within hours of one another.

WDTV reports that the second crash occurred at around 12:15 p.m. Tuesday on I-79 close to the 129 mile marker. The man was travelling northbound on the Interstate when he lost control of his vehicle. The car then rolled over and landed on its top.

The man died at the scene of the rollover crash. There were no other vehicles involved in the accident and there were no further injuries.

The name and age of the deceased victim have not yet been released.

The northbound lanes of I-79 were blocked to traffic immediately following the accident. The lanes were reopened roughly 2 hours later.

There is no word on what caused the man to lose control of his vehicle. The accident is under continued investigation by the Harrison County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
