Man Dies in Route 33 Car Accident after Colliding with Guard Rail

July 26, 2010 - Lewis County, W. Va. - One man was killed in an early morning accident on Route 33.

WDTV reports that the man was travelling at a high rate of speed near Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital in the early hours of Sunday morning. At around 3:30 a.m. the man's vehicle collided with a guard rail.

Upon collision, the man-who was in his 20s-was ejected from the vehicle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene of the crash.

Authorities said they have reason to believe the man had argued with his girlfriend immediately prior to the accident. Alcohol could also have been a factor in the crash.

At this time, the man's name has not been released. The Route 33 crash is currently under investigation by the Weston Police Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
