Man Dies in Fatal Motorcycle Accident in Putnam County

July 16, 2010 - Charleston, W. Va. - A motorcycle accident in the early hours of Friday morning has left one dead.

WBOY reports that the motorcycle crash took place on Silver Street in Poca just after 3 a.m. Friday. The victim, James Wiseman, of Liberty, lost control of his motorcycle and went over an embankment, wrecking the vehicle. According to investigators, Wiseman was pronounced dead on the scene.

Investigators believe Wiseman went over a slip in the road just prior to the accident, which caused him to lose control and go over the embankment. Officials from the Putnam County Sheriff's Department continue to investigate the cause of the fatal motorcycle crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
