Man Dies After Being Ejected During Rollover Accident in Preston County

December 15, 2010 - Preston County, W.Va. - One person was killed early Saturday morning when a truck overturned in Preston County.

WDTV reports that the fatal rollover accident occurred at about 1 a.m. Saturday on Orr-Tannery Road in Terra Alta. According to deputies of the Preston County Sheriff's Department, a Ford F-150 was travelling northbound on the roadway when the driver lost control and the vehicle crashed into an embankment. The vehicle then rolled over, finally coming to a stop at the southern edge of the roadway.

One person was killed in the accident. Michael Friend, 32, of Terra Alta, was found partially ejected from the vehicle. He had died on impact.

According to officials, Friend was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident.

Two other people were in the truck when it crashed. Both of those people were uninjured.

The accident is under ongoing investigation by the Preston County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
