Man Charged With Multiple Violations After 3 Separate DUI Crashes in Charleston

November 1, 2010 - Charleston, W.Va. - One man was arrested after driving drunk and hitting 3 cars across several blocks on the evening of Oct. 20.

The Charleston Daily Mail reports that the accidents were caused by Omar Lee, 42, Charleston who began the night by hitting a parked Toyota Corolla on the 1200 block of Second Avenue. Lee then left the scene of this car accident.

Lee went on to crash into two more cars. Both vehicles, a Toyota Camry and a Chevrolet Malibu, were parked on the 900 block of Seventh Street.

First responders found Lee parked at a nearby intersection. Responding officers said they detected alcohol on Lee's breath. Police said Lee told police he had consumed beer and hard liquor. A breath test revealed his blood alcohol content as .278, more than 3 times the West Virginia legal limit of .08.

Lee has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence, 3 counts of leaving the scene of a car accident, driving without car insurance and driving with a suspended license.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
