Local Taekwondo Instructor Killed in Rollover Accident in Jackson County

October 26, 2010 - Charleston, W.Va. - One man has died following a single-vehicle accident on a rural road in Jackson County late Thursday night.

The Charleston Gazette reports that the accident happened at around 11:45 p.m. Thursday. Charles O. Raines, 49, of Gay, was driving his 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck eastbound on Gay Road at the time of the crash.

Police believe he was attempting to negotiate a curve in the road and lost control of his vehicle.

According to Jackson County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Bruce Dewees, the truck flipped over at least two times. It then crashed into some fence posts before it went over an embankment and finally settled in a creek bed.

Raines suffered fatal injuries in the rollover crash and died on the scene. No other vehicles were involved in the crash and there were no further injuries.

Dewees stated that Raines was a well-known Taekwondo instructor in Jackson County.

The accident is under continued investigation.
