Icy Roads Blamed for Single-Car Crash on Route 250 in Marion County

December 9, 2010 - Marion County, W.Va. - Weather played a role in a single-vehicle crash in Marion County that resulted in one person being taken to the hospital.

WDTV reports that the accident happened Wednesday morning on Route 250. According to Sheriff's Deputies, a man was driving his vehicle towards Fairmont when the vehicle hit a patch of ice. The man lost control of his vehicle and it overturned, landing on its side.

The man was trapped in his vehicle until emergency crews arrived at the scene to free him. The man was transported to Fairmont General Hospital. The extent of the man's injuries is unknown at this time.

The name and age of the man involved in the weather-related Route 250 accident are yet to be released.

Traffic on Route 250 was backed up for about 45 minutes.

At the moment, the cause of the accident is being attributed to winter weather and icy road conditions. Investigations into the accident are ongoing.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
