I-64 Accident Results in Injuries for at Least One Person

March 2, 2011 - South Charleston, W.Va. - A car accident on Interstate 64 sent one person to the hospital with unknown injuries Tuesday evening.

WBOY reports that the I-64 accident happened shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday near the Montrose Drive on-ramp in South Charleston. Details concerning how the crash occurred and/or how many vehicles were involved have not yet been released.

According to Metro 911 dispatchers, one person was taken to the hospital immediately following the I-64 accident. The severity of the person's injuries is unknown at this time. The identity of the injured person is also unknown.

Whether or not anyone else was injured in the accident is unclear.

One of the eastbound lanes on I-64 was blocked to traffic for a brief period of time following the accident, allowing emergency response crews to clear the scene. All lanes have since been reopened.

The injury accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
