Huntington Police Officer Totals Patrol Car in Accident on I-64

Aug. 3, 2010 - Huntington, W. Va. - A Huntington police officer crashed his patrol vehicle in an accident on Interstate 64 in the very early hours of Monday morning.

WSAZ reports that Patrolman Jacob Felix was on his way to assist another officer involved in a pursuit at the time of the accident. The crash happened at 12:13 a.m. Monday on the Adams Avenue entrance ramp onto I-64. It was a single-vehicle crash.

According to Lieutenant B. J. Wamsley, Felix crashed as he was attempting to get on I-64. Felix was sent to Huntington Hospital immediately following the accident, but has since been treated and released.

Wamsley stated that the patrol car was totaled in the I-64 accident. The guardrail and a road sign also received considerable damage. The crash remains under investigation at this time.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
