February 3, 2011 - Kanawha County, W.Va. - Two people were injured Wednesday morning in a head-on collision in Kanawha County.
WSAZ reports that the accident occurred at around 11:45 a.m. Wednesday in the 7400 block of Sissionville Drive in Kanawha County. According to police, a vehicle was driving northbound on the roadway when it suddenly went off the road and struck a patch of gravel. The vehicle then crossed back onto the roadway and into the opposite lane of traffic, where it collided with an SUV head on.
The drivers of both vehicles were injured in the crash. Both were taken to local hospitals and are said to have suffered only minor injuries.
The identities of those involved in the accident have not yet been released.
The affected area of Sissionville Drive was closed for some time following the head-on collision while crews worked to clear the debris.
The head-on collision in Kanawha County remains under investigation.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
