Dump Truck Pulls in Front of Car, Crash Injures 1 on Shaffer Mountain

December 7, 2010 - Randolph County, W.Va. - One person was taken to the hospital for the treatment of accident injuries following an accident involving a dump truck on Friday.

WDTV reports that the crash occurred just before 12 p.m. Saturday along Route 33 on Shaffer Mountain. According to deputies of the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, a black passenger car was driving westbound on Route 33 before a dump truck allegedly pulled into the car's path.

The black vehicle then crashed into the dump truck. The impact sent the car sliding across the roadway and down into an embankment.

The male driver of the black car was taken to Davis Memorial Hospital immediately following the accident. The medical condition of the injured man is unknown at this time.

The driver of the truck received no injuries in the accident. The identities of those involved in the accident have yet to be released.

The Randolph County Sheriff's Department, the Elkins Fire Department and Randolph County EMS were on the scene in response to the collision.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
