November 5, 2010 - Cabin Creek, W.Va. - One person was injured when a semi-truck crashed on Interstate 77 Wednesday night.
WBOY reports that the accident occurred at around 8 p.m. Wednesday on I-77 close to the Cabin Creek entrance ramp. The driver of the semi-truck lost control of the large vehicle. The truck then jackknifed across the interstate.
The driver of the semi-truck was trapped in his vehicle following the I-77 accident. In order to free him, emergency crews were forced to cut through the cabin of the truck.
The driver's medical condition has not yet been released. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
All but one lane of traffic were shut down on the turnpike near the site of the crash as police investigated and crews cleared accident debris.
The truck was the only vehicle involved in the accident. No other people were injured. At this time, there is no word on what caused the semi-truck to lose control.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
