Driver Injured When Semi Overturns During I-79 Truck Accident

February 22, 2011 - Harrison County, W.Va. - An accident involving a tractor trailer sent one person to the hospital and blocked traffic for several hours Friday morning.

A story from WDTV reports that the truck accident occurred at about 1:15 a.m. Friday on Interstate 79 close to the 123 mile marker. Due to causes unknown, a tractor trailer overturned and landed on its side on I-79.

The driver of the tractor trailer was injured in the crash. He was transported to United Hospital Center for treatment. His injuries are said to be minor.

The identity of the driver has not yet been released.

The northbound lanes of I-79 were shut down for several hours following the accident.  The cause of the I-79 truck accident remains to be determined. The accident is under ongoing investigation.

Bridgeport EMS, the Bridgeport Fire Department, the Bridgeport Police Department, the Clarksburg Police Department, and the Harrison County Sheriff's Department were all on the scene in response to the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
