Driver Hospitalized after Tanker Truck Crash in Morgantown

September 10, 2010 - Morgantown, W.Va. - One person was injured when a tanker truck crashed on Interstate 68.

WBOY reports that the crash happened at about 12:30 p.m. Thursday on I-68 in Morgantown. The Penn Tank Lines tanker truck was driving westbound on the highway when its driver lost control of the vehicle.

Authorities stated that the truck then travelled across both the median and the eastbound lanes of traffic. It finally came to a stop after crashing into some nearby trees.

The driver of the tanker was the only person injured in the crash. The driver was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

The accident remains under investigation. All further investigations will be handled by the Monongalia County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
