January 12, 2010 - Huntington, W.Va. - At least one person was hurt Saturday night in a head on collision in Huntington.
WBOY reports that the crash occurred at around 9:45 p.m. Saturday in the 1900 block of Adams Avenue in Huntington. The two vehicles crashed into one-another head on in the roadway. Police believe that ice on the road surface may have been a major factor in the crash.
At least one person received injuries in the accident. The extent of that person's injuries are unknown at this time. The identity of the injured person is also unknown.
According to Cabell County 911 dispatchers, the driver of one of the two vehicles involved in the accident fled the scene. There is no word as to whether or not that driver has been found and/or identified.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no further injuries. The accident is under ongoing investigation by state police.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
