Driver Dies in Logging Truck Crash on Route 16 in Mount Hope

September 22, 2010 - Mount Hope, W.Va.
- A truck accident involving a logging truck left one man dead on Monday morning.

WBOY
reports that the truck crash occurred at around 9:00 a.m. Monday on State Route 16. The logging truck, operated by Marshall Spinks, Jr., 45, of White Sulfur Springs, was travelling in the northbound lane of the roadway when the vehicle collided with a guardrail. The truck then plunged over an embankment.

Emergency crews had a very difficult time removing Spinks from his vehicle. The truck was balanced against a tree on the hillside and tangled about the guardrail. These two factors barely kept the truck from sliding further down the hill.

According to Mount Hope Fire Chief, Shane Wheeler, "it was a very complicated rescue." He went on to describe the truck's situation as, "very unstable." Heavy wreckers were required to secure the vehicle while emergency crews extricated Spinks.

Crews did manage to successfully remove the man. Spinks, however, was pronounced dead at the scene. No other people or vehicles were involved in the truck accident.
