November 19, 2010 - Kanawha County, W.Va. - One child was hospitalized after a school bus crashed in Charleston Thursday afternoon.
WSAZ reports that the accident happened on Oakwood Road, close to Better Homes and Gardens; the precise time of the school bus accident was not provided. Metro 911 dispatchers stated that the bus collided with a curb.
According to emergency crews on the scene, one child was transported to the hospital via ambulance. The child is said to have received only minor injuries in the crash. Several other students also received less serious injuries. Those students were able to be treated on the scene.
The identity of the driver of the school bus is yet to be released.
The students and school bus were from Logan County. The students had just taken a field trip to the Clay Center in Charleston and were travelling back to Logan at the time of the accident, said police.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
