Child Bicyclist Injured in Charleston Hit and Run Accident

September 23, 2010 - Charleston, W.Va. - A child was struck by a car and injured Tuesday evening in a hit and run accident in Charleston.

WSAZ reports that the hit and run accident occurred at around 6:00 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of South Park Road. According to police, a 7-year-old boy was riding his bicycle within the parking lot of an apartment building on South Park Road when he was struck by a vehicle.

The boy-whom police have not named-received injuries in the crash, but he was fortunate enough to avoid being seriously injured. The driver of the vehicle immediately left the scene of the bike accident.

Police described the vehicle in question as a green Dodge Stratus. The driver is believed to have been a man. Anyone who has information regarding the accident is asked to contact the Charleston Police immediately.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
