Charleston Crash Involving Mini Motorcycle & VW Sends Man to Hospital

January 26, 2011 - Charleston, W.Va. - A miniature motorcycle (or pocket bike) collided with a Volkswagen Beetle Sunday evening, sending one person to the hospital.

WBOY reports that the accident happened on Roane Street on Charleston's west side. The driver of the pocket bike was riding near the entrance to the Kroger on Delaware Avenue when the bike collided with the Volkswagen Beetle. Both vehicles suffered body damage and the window of the Volkswagen was broken.

The driver of the pocket bike was injured in the Charleston crash. He had to be transported to CAMC General Hospital immediately following the accident. The medical condition of the driver is unknown at this time.

A passenger in the Volkswagen received scratches from flying shards of window glass. This person was not taken to the hospital.

It has not yet been reported if there will be any charges against the driver of the miniature motorcycle. According to police, the accident is under ongoing investigation.

Police did not release the names of any of the crash victims.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
