February 25, 2011 - Shady Spring, W.Va. - One person was sent to the hospital Thursday afternoon following an accident in Raleigh County.
WBOY reports that the accident occurred at about 1:15 p.m. Thursday on Route 19 in front of the Open Door Baptist Church in Shady Spring. A car and a truck crashed into one another on the roadway. One of the vehicles apparently tried to swerve to avoid the accident and ended up hitting a fence.
The driver of the truck was injured in the crash. The injured driver was taken to a local hospital immediately following the truck accident. The medical condition of the injured person is unknown at this time.
The identities of those involved in the crash have not yet been released. No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no further injuries.
The cause of the accident remains to be determined. The accident is under ongoing investigation by deputies of the Raleigh County Sheriff's Department.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
