Bad Roads Lead to Serious Accident on Route 58 in Harrison County

February 11, 2011 - Harrison County, W.Va. - One woman was injured Tuesday night when her vehicle crashed in Harrison County.

WDTV reported that the single-vehicle accident occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Tuesday on Route 58 in Harrison County, just outside of Stonewood. The woman was driving on the roadway when, according to Sheriff's deputies, she lost control of her vehicle. The car slid off of the road and crashed into the side of a cement bridge.

The woman was trapped in the wrecked vehicle after it crashed. When emergency crews arrived on the scene they were forced to cut her out of the vehicle. The woman was then flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital for the treatment of accident injuries. Her medical condition is unknown at this time.

The identity of the woman has not yet been released. No other vehicles were involved in the Route 58 accident and there were no further injuries.

The accident remains under investigation. According to deputies, bad road conditions caused by winter weather were a factor in the crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
