Army Veteran From Tyler County Killed in Motorcycle Crash on W. Va. 2

July 29, 2010 - Pleasants County, W. Va. - A well-respected Tyler County man and Army veteran has been killed in a motorcycle accident in Pleasants County.

Tyler Star News reports that the crash occurred on Monday evening when Brian Reed, 41, was driving his 2001 Victory motorcycle on W.Va. Route 2, north of St. Mary's. According to the official report, Reed's motorcycle went off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail.

Reed was pronounced dead on the scene. Neila Heintzman, a passenger on Reed's motorcycle, received serious injuries. Heintzman was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital in Parkersburg by EMS.

Reed had recently returned home from Afghanistan. Over the course of his military career, Reed served 3 tours of duty in Afghanistan and one in Iraq. Locally, he was the commander for American Legion Post 67 and an active member of his community.

The motorcycle accident is currently under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
