October 8, 2010 - Sistersville, W.Va. - Six children and one adult were sent to the hospital after a collision between an SUV and a school bus Wednesday afternoon.
WBOY reports that the accident occurred shortly before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Old State Road and Route 18 in Tyler County when a 2001 Dodge Durango and a school bus collided in the intersection.
Thirty people were on the school bus at the time of the accident - 29 students and the driver. Six students received injuries in the crash. The severity of their injuries is unknown at this time.
The driver of the Dodge Durango was also injured in the crash. This person and the 6 students were transported to Sistersville General Hospital and Wetzel County Hospital. Details concerning the medical condition and identity of the driver of the Dodge are unavailable at this time.
The school bus accident is being investigated by the Tyler County Sheriff's Department.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
