3 Injured When SUV and FedEx Collide on Interstate 64

November 4, 2010 - Kanawha County, W.Va. - A semi-truck and an SUV were involved in head-on collision Wednesday night that sent 3 people to the hospital.

WBOY reports that the crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 64, near the Kanawha Turnpike exit. The driver of the SUV lost control of the vehicle and caused it to spin. The SUV finally came to a stop, facing eastbound in the westbound lanes of traffic.

The semi-truck, owned by FedEx, then crashed into the stopped SUV.

Three people, all occupants of the SUV, received injuries in the crash. These accident victims were transported to a local hospital. The medical conditions of the injured people have not yet been released. The driver of the FedEx truck did not receive serious injuries in the crash.

The I-64 crash took place in the fast lanes of the interstate. Two inside lanes were blocked to traffic for some time following the accident. Police continue to investigate the I-64 truck accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
