3 Injured in 4-Vehicle Wreck on I-77 in Charleston

November 9, 2010 - Charleston, W.Va. - A 4-vehicle crash on Interstate 77 in Charleston sent 3 people to the hospital Monday morning.

WBOY reports that the crash occurred before 8 a.m. Monday on Interstate 77, close to the Leon Sullivan Way exit. Four cars collided in the passing lanes on I-77.

Joe Tittle, a driver involved in the 1-77 crash, stated that he had no time to react before the multi-vehicle accident occurred. Tittle described the sequence of events leading up to the accident, as he saw it:

"She went to cut over in front of me," said Tittle, referring to the actions of another driver. "We didn't have time to do anything. I hit her and pushed her into the wall. The lady driving the Nissan hit us in the rear pretty hard."

It is important to note that Tittle's account of the I-77 accident may or may not be consistent with the official police report. Officials continue to investigate the crash.

Three people received injuries in the crash and were transported to a local hospital, though none are believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries.

The southbound passing lanes on I-77 were closed for some time following the accident.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
