3 Injured after Driver Runs Light, Causes Multi-Vehicle Wreck in Morgantown

December 6, 2010 - Monongalia County, W.Va. - Three people were sent to the hospital following a car accident early Saturday morning.

WDTV reports that the accident happened shortly before 8 a.m. Saturday on University Avenue by the Westover Bridge. According to police, a vehicle travelling southbound on University Avenue failed to stop at a red light.

A second vehicle that was coming off of the bridge crashed into the right side of the car that ran the red light. The first car went into a roll, landing on another car that was stopped at the red light.

Officials from the Morgantown Fire Department had to cut free all 3 occupants of one of the vehicles. The 3 injured were taken to Ruby Memorial Hospital for treatment. All 3 are said to have suffered only minor injuries.

The identities of those involved in the multi-car accident are yet to be released.

The driver of the vehicle that ran the red light has received a citation for failure to obey a traffic signal.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
