2 Killed in Wetzel County Truck Crash After Trailer Comes Loose

September 22, 2010 - New Martinsville, W.Va. - Two people died Sunday in a truck accident in Wetzel County.

WBOY reports that the truck crash occurred on Route 180 at an unspecified time on Sunday. A passenger vehicle was driving on Route 180 behind a tractor-trailer, when the trailer fell from the truck, crashing into the smaller vehicle.

One woman, the driver of the smaller vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene. A second woman in the vehicle was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital immediately following the truck accident. The woman later died in the hospital, as stated by Wetzel County Sheriff James Hoskins.

The names of the victims have not yet been released. The driver of the tractor-trailer suffered no injuries in the accident.

The fatal truck accident remains under investigation.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
