2 Injured When Van Goes Over Embankment in Marion County

September 29, 2010 - Marion County, W.Va. - Two people were injured when a van crashed in the Barrackville area on Monday afternoon.

WDTV reports that the crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. Monday on Old Route 250 in Pine Grove. The van was driving on the roadway when, for reasons unknown at this time, it went off the road and over an embankment. Officials stated that the van skidded roughly 80 feet down the embankment before it came to rest.

Two people were in the van at the time of the accident. Both were trapped in the vehicle. Emergency crews were forced to use ropes to extract the van and its occupants from the embankment.

According to deputies from the Marion County Sherriff's Department, the two people were helicoptered to Ruby Memorial Hospital via HealthNet. No information regarding the identity or medical condition of either person has been released.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
