2 Injured in Preston County Car Accident on Route 50

August 24, 2010 - Kingwood, W. Va. - Two people had to be hospitalized after a crash in Preston County early Sunday morning.

WBOY reports that the accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Sunday on U.S. Route 50. Deputies stated that a 1999 Dodge Ram truck was driving westbound on Route 50 when it went off the roadway, across an embankment and into a tree.

Both the driver, Brian Murray, 36, of Newburg, and passenger, Robert Stull, 34, of Kingwood, needed to be extricated from the vehicle by emergency response crews. Both were then transported to a local hospital for treatment. The extent of either man's injuries is unknown at this time.

The crash remains under investigation by the Preston County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
