2 Injured in Fiery Tractor Trailer Accident in Morgantown on I-79

August 6, 2010 - Morgantown, W. Va. - A truck accident in Morgantown Thursday morning left 2 people injured and a tractor trailer in flames.

WBOY reports that the accident occurred at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 79 when a tractor trailer was cut off by a northbound Jeep Cherokee close to the University Town Center exit.

According to officials from the Division of Highways, the tractor trailer then crashed into a guardrail. Two fuel tanks were ruptured in the accident and subsequently caught fire.

The driver of the tractor trailer did not suffer any serious injuries in the crash and was treated on the scene. The man in the Jeep, however, had to be transported to the hospital in an ambulance. As of this posting, there has been no word on the man's condition.

The I-79 truck crash remains under investigation by the Division of Highways.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
