2 Injured After Car Accident in Culloden Closes Route 60

Aug. 2, 2010 - Huntington, W. Va. - A car accident early Saturday morning sent 2 people to the hospital and caused officials to temporarily close Route 60.

WBOY reports that the accident happened just before 2 a.m. Saturday when a car crashed into a tree on Route 60 in Culloden. The crash caused the tree to fall into and block the roadway.

Emergency crews were called to the scene and the road was shut down for several hours. Two people suffered injuries from the accident and were taken to the hospital. There is no word on the condition of the injured victims at this time.

The Department of Highways was called to remove the tree. Route 60 was reopened to traffic by 4:30 Saturday morning.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
