2 Hospitalized After 3-Vehicle Accident in Morgantown

August 26, 2010 - Morgantown, W. Va. - A 3-vehicle accident in Morgantown sent 2 people to the hospital Tuesday night.

WDTV reports that the accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. Tuesday. According to investigators, it is believed that the first vehicle came from Mileground on Wiley Street, crossed into the opposite lanes of traffic and struck two oncoming vehicles.

The driver of the first vehicle was trapped in their car for more than 2 hours prior to being rescued. The driver was then transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital. A second driver also had to be sent to Ruby Memorial Hospital. The driver of the third vehicle suffered no apparent injuries.

The condition of the hospitalized drivers has been described as serious but their injuries have been described as non-life-threatening.

The accident remains under investigation by the Morgantown Police Department. Officials are unsure if alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
