November 24, 2010 - Salem, W.Va. - Two women were killed Monday morning when their vehicle overturned in Salem.
WDTV reports that the accident occurred shortly before 12:30 p.m. Monday on Route 50 in Salem, close to Lake Floyd. According to investigators on the scene, a vehicle went out of control and ran off of the roadway. The vehicle then rolled over several times before coming to a stop.
The driver and a passenger in the vehicle were thrown from the car as it rolled. The driver, Michelle Ables, 45, and her passenger, Whitney Hager, 19, both died in the accident. Both women were from Clarksburg.
The cause of the accident is unknown at this time. The Route 50 crash remains under investigation by the Harrison County Sheriff's Department. Harrison County EMS, the Salem Volunteer Fire Department, and the Reynolds Volunteer Fire Department were also on the scene in response to the accident.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
