January 10, 2011 - Midkiff, W.Va. - Several people received minor injuries and nearly 1,500 more were out of power following a crash in Lincoln County.
WSAZ reports that the accident occurred at around 3 p.m. Saturday in the town of Midkiff in Lincoln County. A vehicle collided with a utility pole, causing the pole to snap. The cause of the accident has not yet been released.
911 dispatchers stated that three people were injured in the crash. Two children and one woman were sent to the hospital. Both of the children are said to have suffered only minor injuries. The woman suffered a broken wrist.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident and there were no further injuries.
Almost 1,500 customers of AEP were without power as of late Saturday night. Whether or not power has since been restored to the area is unknown at this time.
Authorities have not yet released the names of the accident victims who were injured in Saturday's crash.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
