1 Sent to the Hospital after Route 2 Accident in Cabell County

August 13, 2010 - Cabell County, W. Va. - One person was hospitalized after a car accident in Cabell County Wednesday morning.

WSAZ reports that the accident occurred at around 10 a.m. Wednesday on Route 2. A white pick-up truck was in the process of making a U-turn directly before the Tri-State Fire Academy when it hit another vehicle in the next lane.

One passenger was injured and taken to a local hospital. Two children who had been riding in the rear seats of the vehicle received no injuries in the accident. An improvised bed in the truck was thrown from the vehicle on impact and landed in the center of the roadway.

According to the Sheriff's Department, fault lies with the driver of the pick-up. The driver was ticketed for an illegal U-turn and for "no or expired insurance."

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
