1 Killed and 1 Injured in Motorcycle Crash in Pitch

Sept. 1, 2010 - Pinch, W. Va. - One person has died and another was injured following a motorcycle accident in Pinch.

WBOY reports that the accident occurred at 8:30 p.m. Sunday close to 3597 Indian Creek Road in Pinch. Richard Ray Carnefix, 54, of Elkview, was driving his motorcycle when he reportedly left the road and crashed in a ditch.

Carnefix suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the motorcycle accident. Darla Kay Hayes, 49, was transported to the hospital immediately following the accident. Hayes incurred serious injuries in the crash and is currently in Charleston Area Medical Center's intensive care unit.

The motorcycle accident remains under investigation by the Kanawha County Police. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2008 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 380 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
