1 Killed, 3 Injured in Fatal Big Chimney Crash on Elk River Road

February 21, 2011 - Kanawha County, W.Va. - One person has died and three more were taken to the hospital after a fatal accident in Kanawha County.

WBOY reports that the accident occurred at 11:46 p.m. Friday in the vicinity of 4987 Elk River Road South in Big Chimney, in Kanawha County. A truck overturned several times after losing control as it attempted to pass another vehicle on the roadway. According to dispatchers, the truck then went off of the road and over a hill.

One man, Brandon Bradshaw, was killed in the accident. Bradshaw died on the scene.

Three other people were taken to CAMC General Hospital immediately following the accident. The extent of their injuries is unknown. The identities of the injured people are also unknown.

The northbound lane of Elk River Road was closed to traffic for some time after the accident. The fatal accident remains under investigation by the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's 2009 West Virginia Crash Statistics show that there were 356 fatalities as a result of car accidents in West Virginia.
